Both the theater
shooter James Holmes and Norwegian mass murder Anders Behring Breivik lacked
facebook accounts. According to Der Taggsplegel, a German magazine, facebook
has become such a pervasive force in modern society that increasing number of
employers, and even some pyschologists, believe people who are not on social
networking sites are ‘suspicious’. From job seekers to love seekers, facebook
is becoming an integral point being used as a reference to gauge one’s social
life and alsothe kind pf friend that person has.
Facebook abstainers are now
being labelled suspicious and according to the German magazine, lack of a
facebook account could be the first sign that you are a mass murderer.
Employers could get
the impression that lack of a facebook account could mean that the applicant’s
account could be so full of red flags that it had to be deleted. On the other
hand slate.com tech reporter Farhad Manjoo wrote in an advice column thsat young
people should not date anyone who is not on facebook. He says that young people
should be weary of such people because they might actually have given out a
wrong name. Manjoo however exempts older people from such judgment saying that
they were already reproductive adults when the social media became widespread.
T6he whole concept of
having a facebook account is to keep regular contact with friends and to make
new ones. It has also become a source of news for many. For instance, whenever
there is a breaking news, people are already in the know even before it reaches
to broadcast media, thanks to facebook. People update everything around them
each second making it a unique source of news. Infact the more the friends none
has the better because one will get most out of it.
Psycchologist
Christopher Moeleer told the magazine that using facebook has become a sign of
having a healthy social network. Pychologists have noted that Holmes, along with
several netedd mass murderers have lacked any real friends. They threfore
conclude that being absent from social networks could be a sign that you are
abnortmal and dysfunctional or even dangerous.
Recently, the social
network reported in a new filing with the securities and exchange commission
that more than 83 milliion facebook accounts are fake, with 48 million
equivalent to 4.8% of users owning ‘duplicate’ accounts which are not allowed
under the terms and conditions of the service. This may mean that you might be
having fake friends in your account.
